Gilbert trujillo

Lead pastor

Despite being born and spending the first 8 years of my life in southern California, I like to say that I grew up in the “mountains.” During those formative years, my family and I lived in Mariposa until moving to the other side of the mountain to Oakhurst. When I was about 11 years old, I received a prophetic word regarding the call on my life for ministry. I began serving in Youth Group as a Worship Leader shortly thereafter, and continued to throw myself into my passion for worship and music. My bride and I met in Junior High School but didn’t start dating until my senior year. As high school sweethearts, Heather and I married in 2007 and lived in Fresno, CA, being plugged into a wonderful church and Worship Ministry.

After being relocated to the Coast, it was there that the Lord began to really woo our hearts and reignite the coals of ministry within and in January of 2012, we shipped off to Salem, OR for a Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Our time with YWAM helped to accelerate our family’s passion for His presence and open our eyes to believe in the impossible. Accompanied by our then 2 boys, Heather and I spent 2 months serving in Thailand and were able to witness the Father pour out His love in countless ways. While wrapping up our time overseas, Heather and I took some time to pray, asking the Lord for the next steps and direction. With our hearts fully surrendered to His leading, and to our surprise, the Father commissioned and sent us with a heart and passion to serve the mountain region of the Sierra Nevada’s.

For the next several years, we had the privilege of serving in various ways and in various locations, from full time Christian Camp Ministry, 24-hour Worship Events, countless prayer gatherings and meals shared in our home, all while growing our beautiful family. In 2017 I accepted a full time position as the Worship Pastor at Sierra Pines Church in Oakhurst, CA where I was on staff for 4 years. It was there that I completed the 3+ year ordination program through Church of God (Anderson). In addition to leading times of praise and worship, I served on the teaching team, small groups, visitation, and janitorial team. At the start of 2021, the Lord visited me in a profound way and led us on a 12-month journey of stepping away from vocational ministry, resulting in me resigning from my position, giving the field of ministry a “year of rest,” and trusting the Lord to “lead us to a place that He will show us” (Genesis 12:1). In a demonstration of His goodness and faithfulness to His word, almost one year exactly, conversations began to take place that would ultimately lead to me stepping in as Lead Pastor of New Life in August of 2022.

Heather and I are the parents of 5 beautiful children (4 boys and 1 darling little girl). We enjoy doing just about everything together, whether it’s a quick trip to the store or cooking a meal, we love being with our kids and involving them in the ministry we do. Worship and music are a big part of our family, and we certainly have a family band in the making. Additionally, we are a baseball family (watching and playing-- GO DODGERS!), amateur homesteaders, avid bb gun shooters, and people who thoroughly enjoy tacos.

I’m beyond excited to see the Father lavish His goodness and grace upon New Life Christian Fellowship and as a result that—seeing our community and beyond impacted with His immutable goodness and grace.
